No one enjoys being dragged from their bed and thrusted into the new world before they’ve had enough sleep. For students waking up early is so much more than a nuisance. Some studies have been conducted which prove that we should be able to stay in bed longer instead of waking up at six in the morning!
Numerous amounts of studies which trace back to the beginning of the 1990s have shown that early school schedules are incompatible with young adolescents. If schools start later in the day, it will be more practical for pupils when they grow up later because if you think about it, there aren’t that many jobs that start at seven in the morning and end at one in the afternoon. Most jobs usually begin at 9 am and end at 5 pm.
Prestigious and well-acclaimed sources like Forbes, Harvard, Stanford, and the CDC all condemn the early morning schedules schools have followed for the longest time. If later morning schedules are implemented instead of the current one which all students loathe and dread we will be more focused during class hours, and the chances of students being absent will decrease immensely. When we get used to early morning schedules, it will become even more of a nuisance for us when we grow up as we will have to alter our sleep routine for us to wake up on time for work.
Now, you may ask yourself, if evidence shows that it is crystal clear that the current early morning schedules are bad for adolescents of today's age and time then why is it that schools have not yet implemented a later school routine? One of the core reasons that schools have not yet implemented a later school routine is because the issue at hand raises a lot of stereotypical and misinformed opposition. Another main reason is that most parents are against schools starting later as it conflicts with their work schedule. Teenagers may also stay up even later if they don’t have to wake up as early as usual.
In conclusion, later school times will make students happier, help us on later in real life and studies have even shown that our brains are only fully active after 9 am. Later school times also have multiple health benefits like Improved Memory, Alertness, Cognitive Processing Skills, and many more skills which are vital to be productive in school.
